Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono 1000m Slytech PAM 00225

Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono 1000m Slytech PAM 00225 If you're a watch geek who loves action movies, the Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono 1000m Slytech – PAM 00225 is your grail watch. For two reasons: it's a limited edition timepiece commissioned by one of the biggest action stars of all time, the one and only Sylvester Stallone. The titanium caseback is engraved with the big man's signature. Only 300 exist in the world.
It's not just about the name, though. In the 19th Century, Panerai made watches exclusively for the Royal Italian Navy . It was only in 1993 that they were made available for public sale. This automatic chronograph packs a lot of features and functions into its 47 mm brushed titanium case. Hours, minutes and small seconds functions are just half the story.
Sly Stallone loves Panerai. So do his friends. Sly first discovered the luxury Florentine watch brand in 1995, during rare down time in his filming schedule. He commissioned a bespoke watch – entitled Slytech Panerai – and gifted a number to the cast and crew of the movie Daylight. Incidentally, Sly wears one on his right wrist in the film. It's difficult to tell exactly which model. His best buddies also received Slytech Panerais. When those happen to include Hollywood stars like Schwarzenegger, a respected, established watch brand in military circles becomes the go-to brand for the super rich.
A tough guy needs a sturdy watch. Something that can handle dangling off the edge of a cliff in the sweltering tropics one minute and being submerged in deep cool waters the next. Thankfully, the Panerai Luminor Submersible Chrono 1000m Slytech – PAM 00225 is water resistant up to 1000 m. Because you don't want to worry about your watch being damaged when you've been comprised and forced to dive into the ocean to escape.
As this is a luxury divers watch, it has a black rubber bracelet. That's standard for a reason: it's simply that rubber is more durable in water than metal. Shielded by a sapphire crystal, the white dial bears a large Arabic 12 numeral. The rest of the numbers are represented by simple circular hour markers. All are applied with a green lume. The arrows of the hour hands are also luminescent. It's important to note that the case gives more than a passing nod to the original 1950 Luminor, which paved the way for wider bezels.
The anti-clockwise rotatable bezel is in brushed steel and has a graduated minute scale so you can measure and calculate the length of immersions with a single ratchet click.
To the movement. Exclusive to Panerai, it's calibre OP XII . It has a special Panerai oscillating weight that ensures accuracy regardless of the wrist action of the wearer. It also has an anti-shock device. It can roll with the punches, so to speak. On the decorative front, there's a Côtes de Genève embellishment on the bridges, and 27 jewels. It has a 46-hour power reserve, standard for the vast majority of luxury sports and divers watches.
Let's have a look at security. It is, after all, the cornerstone of any successful operation. Screw-down pushers take care of business on that front. The main function of these is to protect the movement. It never hurts to have extra protection on a diving watch. That's why in 1950, Panerai introduced their signature bridge to safeguard the crown.
Nods to Panerai's rich heritage, cutting-edge watchmaking technology and the stamp of Sly Stallone make this a rare and highly collectable timepiece on all fronts.
